Overview on standards for Battery Management Systems (BMS) development

We are happy to share a paper that shows a summary of standards that support the development and verification of a Battery Management Systems (BMS).

During the development of a BMS, there are various aspects to be considered to assure the safe operation and best possible utilization of the battery system. The analysis of existing standards for battery packs in different applications, and the functional safety standards like ISO 61508 and ISO 26262 for the development of hardware and software parts of electrical and electronic systems are critical and need to be tested accordingly.

The BMS related standards were analyzed based on their coverage of the following categories

1. Functionality

2. Safety

3. Testing

4. Re-usability/second life

5. Virtualization
